| Tape
1: Introduction to Pneumatic Systems |
|
After viewing this tape the individual will be able to briefly describe a
pneumatic system and list some common applications of pneumatics.
They will be able
to list the major areas of a typical system, briefly explain their function and
list common components found in a typical pneumatic system. |

2: Characteristics of Compressed Air |
| Upon
completion of this tape, the learner will be able to describe the characteristics
of air and how they are affected when air is compressed. They will
be able to describe the interrelationships between pressure, volume, temperature
and moisture content in air that is compressed: Pascal's Law, Boyles'
Law, Charles' Law and the Perfect Gas Law are reviewed. How the potential
energy of compressed air is converted into kinetic energy to do work is
discussed. |

3: Air Preparation |
| When
this is complete, the trainee will be able to define contaminants, their
sources, how their size is measured and explain when air preparation is
important. The trainee will be able to describe the roles of other
pneumatic system components such as: aftercollers, receivers, filters,
regulators and lubricators. In addition, they will be able to describe
the basic types and operation of filters, regulators and lubricators. |

4: Pneumatic Directional Control Valves |
| By
the end of this tape the learner will be able to describe the common types
of directional control valve designs and how they work. Such valve
designs as: packed bore, packed spool, lapped spool, poppet and sliding
seal will be discussed. They will be able to describe the operation
of 2-, 3-, and 4-way valves along with 2- and 3-position valves.
Common methods of valve actuation are discussed. |
