PROACT®
2.0 Software Support Information
If
you are experiencing any difficulty with PROACT®, the
first thing we recommend is checking to ensure that you are using the
most up to date version of the program. To be sure that you have the
most up to date version of PROACT® 2.0, launch the
program. At the main screen, choose “Help” from the menu bar and
then click on “About”. If the version is anything less than 2.7.0
simply call RCI at 804-458-0645 and ask for the most current service
release for PROACT® 2.0. Service releases are available
free of charge to registered users of PROACT® 2.0.
You
may also email this request to support@reliability.com
along with your name and product serial number. Your serial number can
be located inside your PROACT® 2.0 packaging, near the
CD-ROM slot.
PROACT®
2.0 FAQ’s
I have loaded the new PROACT® 2.0 and have run the conversion on my PROACT® 1.0 database. I’ve tried everything to view the old analyses in PROACT® 2.0 but I’m still unable to see them. Where are my analyses? This
is a very common problem. It is because PROACT®
2.0 has a bit more security than 1.0. Anyone could log into 1.0 and
see all analyses that were contained within the database. In 2.0 when
a person logs in they will only see analyses where one of three
conditions exist:
If
none of the conditions are met, no analyses will be seen, giving the
appearance that no analyses exist. The easiest way to figure out how
to log in is to refer back to the 1.0 database to see who the
Principal Analyst is and then log into 2.0 using the name of that
person exactly as it appears. (Pay close attention to any
middle initials and/or punctuation that may have been used). Another
possible culprit is the existence of an extra space. If your name was
entered into the team pool in 1.0 with an extra space, 2.0 expects
that you will log in that same way. For
example: Joe
Smith is not the same as Joe
Smith The
best way to check for this is to go into the team pool in 2.0, select
the Principal Analyst’s record, click the Edit button and position
the cursor in the name field to check for the extra space. Generally
the space is at the end of the first name. When
I try and convert my 1.0 database to PROACT®
2.0, I get a message that says the file is in use exclusively by
another user. No one else is using the file. What is wrong?
PROACT®
1.0 locks databases if they are closed in an irregular manner (i.e.
power loss, system crash, etc.). A utility called “Database
Administration Tools” was shipped with 1.0 to perform various tasks,
including unlocking databases. Below are the steps to do this
function:
I
completed the setup of PROACT® 2.0 and when I ran it for
the first time I got an error that said “Connection Error: Problem
connecting to the database 91 – object variable or With block
variable not set”. How do I resolve this problem?
This
problem is usually caused by not having Microsoft’s Internet
Explorer installed. The
Windows platform is greatly enhanced by installing Internet Explorer
(IE) and PROACT® does not work as expected without at
least IE v4.01 installed. For your convenience, IE v 5.0 is included
on your PROACT® CD. You do not need to use IE as your
Internet Browser; it simply needs to be installed on the computer that
PROACT® is loaded on. This is not a PROACT® requirement, it has to do with some of the elements of the program as they relate to the Windows operating system. Many programs function unpredictably (or not at all) when no web browser is present. It is unknown how intertwined the web browser is with the Windows operating system. Is
PROACT® v 2.0 compatible with Microsoft’s Windows 2000?
Yes.
RCI has extensively tested PROACT® on Windows 2000. I’m
trying to import a document via the file link feature. I have added
the document but can’t view it using the view button. Am I missing
something?
It
is necessary to have the associated software loaded on the computer
that you want to view the imported document on. For example, if you
import a Microsoft Word document you must have Microsoft Word
installed on that computer to view the imported document. Likewise, if
you are importing a picture or some other type of graphic, you have to
have a program capable of opening that type of file. The
steps for importing are as follows:
Shortly
after I started to install PROACT®, I got a message that said I had
out of date controls and that setup could not continue. What does this
mean? The
out of date control issue is quite common when installing this
product, it occurs for one of two reasons:
Sometimes
it is a combination of these two reasons. In order for the controls to
be updated (or installed) and registered with your system registry
correctly, you need to choose to update the controls when prompted.
After your system updates the controls your system must be
rebooted and the setup routine needs to be run again. Even
though January 1, 2000 has passed without event, my company insists
that I have information about the Y2K compliance of all software that
we purchase. Is PROACT® 2.0 Y2K compliant? PROACT®
v 2.0 is fully Y2K compliant. If you require a formal statement,
please contact RCI and we will be happy to provide a statement that
will satisfy your company’s requirements. My
company has purchased several copies of PROACT® 2.0 and those of us
that use the program would like to share the information across our
company’s LAN. How can this be done? PROACT®
2.0 Desktop Edition is intended to be used in a stand-alone capacity.
It is possible to share the application with other licensed users, but
not recommended. There
are instructions available in either Microsoft Word or PDF format that
explain how to share the Desktop Edition over a LAN. Keep in mind that
this is not recommended and is not supported by RCI as this is beyond
the intended functionality of this version. The
Enterprise version of PROACT® 2.0 is designed to
function as a full-scale network enabled application. Currently it is
available to operate in conjunction with Microsoft’s SQL Server 7.0
or Oracle 8.0. If your company has purchased the Desktop Edition and you discover that you would prefer the Enterprise Edition, contact an RCI representative at 804-458-0645 to discuss upgrading. |
