Steam Solutions - Turbine Damage
Turbine damage is a common problem that is generally accepted as normal. This does not have to be the case and is often caused by improper trap installation or even absence of traps. For proper trapping, note the following:
  • Case drain trap

  • - be sure that this trap is installed below the low point of the case.
  • Turbine supply steam

  • - There should be a trap on the supply steam to ensure that no water is pumped into the turbine.
    - Be sure this trap is installed at the lowest point of the turbine supply.
    - All traps should be properly orientated (check manufacturers instructions before installing.
  • Blocking-in

  • - be sure that traps are located so that they remain in service even when the turbine is blocked in.
Why is it so important for facilities to have a dedicated steam trap survey and repair program? / Steam Loss Chart
